A sprint for the ball, a jump to block, the last rep with a heavy barbell - the sharpest movements in sport last a few seconds and depend on the energy the muscle has at hand straight away. Crea 5 Pro Creatine Matrix 300 g - Strawberry Flavour by Nutri Pro Sport was created for exactly such moments: creatine in five forms at once. Creatine is a small molecule that the body builds from three amino acids - arginine, glycine and methionine - and stores almost entirely in skeletal muscle, while in the diet it comes mainly from meat and fish. The five forms differ in the partner creatine is bound to: water in monohydrate, malic acid in tri-creatine malate, hydrochloric acid in hydrochloride, citric acid in citrate and ethanol in ethyl ester. The partner decides how the form dissolves in water and how much pure creatine each gram of it brings. Alongside the five forms come CarnoSyn® beta-alanine (the raw material for carnosine), L-leucine and BioPerine®, a black pepper fruit extract standardised to piperine, which helps the body take up the other ingredients. A formula like this has its place in the gym, on the track and in sports that demand short, explosive efforts. The powder with a strawberry flavour is easy to fit in even on the busiest day.

ATP is the molecule the muscle spends on every contraction, and its supply runs out after a few seconds of maximal effort. The reserve is phosphocreatine - creatine with a phosphate group attached, which in a fraction of a second hands the phosphate over to spent ATP, rebuilding it before slower processes can get going. The bigger this reserve, the longer the muscle holds full power and the faster it regains it in the break between sets - which is why creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high intensity exercise. Every day part of the creatine turns into creatinine and leaves the body, so this reserve needs regular topping up. The other ingredients work alongside this mechanism: carnosine made from beta-alanine mops up some of the hydrogen ions that make the muscle more acidic during hard effort, and leucine passes on to the cells the signal to build new muscle proteins.
